Chelsea transfer round-up: Ben Chilwell contract details, Malang Sarr talks

Chelsea continue to have irons in a number of fires as they continue their preparations for the 2020/21 season.

Moves for Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech have already been completed, while we continue to wait on further developments in the Blues’ pursuit of Bayer Leverkusen’s Kai Havertz and free agent Thiago Silva.

However, there has been more movement elsewhere, with a couple of other defensive targets appearing to draw closer to a resolution.

We’ve got the latest on those two, as well as an update on one of what may end up being a number of loan departures during this transfer window.

Ben Chilwell is expected to earn £190,000 per week at Chelsea, with the Blues poised to confirm the signing of the England international this week.

The Leicester City defender who has been left out of Gareth Southgate’s England squad as he continues his recovery from injury, is poised for a Chelsea medical in the next 48 hours, according to the Telegraph

Chelsea reportedly have “no long-term concerns” over the player, who missed the final few games of the season.

While Chilwell is expected to begin the season as first choice if and when the deal is confirmed, Chelsea are still yet to offload Emerson Palmieri or Marcos Alonso as they attempt to balance their squad going into the 2020/21 campaign.

The paper reports that Frank Lampard’s team will pay an initial £50m for Chilwell, with potential add-ons dependent on the 23-year-old’s achievements in west London.

Thiago Silva might not be the only centre-back heading to Stamford Bridge on a free this summer.

The Blues have reportedly entered contract talks with Malang Sarr, the French under-21 defender who left Nice over the summer after the expiry of his contract.

According to Goal, Chelsea face competition from clubs such as Bayer Leverkusen and Schalke for the 21-year-old, who played 100 Ligue 1 games for Nice before deciding to move on.

If the Frenchman does opt for Chelsea, Goal reports that he would likely be sent out on loan for the 2020/21 season, with Frank Lampard able to choose from plenty of alternatives already.

Talks with Thiago Silva are ongoing, while Ethan Ampadu and Jake Clarke-Salter have both returned from loan spells, though the youngsters could both be farmed out for the upcoming campaign following stints at RB Leipzig and Birmingham City respectively.
