Shokunbi Olamide Ajoke is a dedicated and wonderful caregiver who is blessed with the art of singing . She is an upcoming artiste that is focused on utilizing her talents to the brim and making her name renowned. Combining both career is quite an effort that shouldn’t go unnoticed.
Ajoke would define herself as calm, cool and collected, but can be a little strict at times. Even as a caregiver; an auxiliary nurse presently taking care of elderly people, she is also passionate and committed to her music career as she is close to releasing a new single titled ‘Calm down’ .
The journey to being an health-care professional was not in her agenda, being a singer, lover of novels and content writing. When asked how she got into Nursing profession she said ” It’s a long story but to cut it short; I’ve always been the caring type of person, but sincerely nursing wasn’t part of my ideal work. My mom had always loved nursing and she wanted me to become one so badly.”
“Whereas I was all into writing and reading novels which didn’t go down well with my mom, she didn’t stop me though. Then she got sick and it was so serious that we took her from one hospital to another and then eventually LUTH. We thought she wasn’t going to make it”.
“This was where I got to meet nurses. The way they took care of my mom, dressed, and how nice the matrons we met behaved was fascinating and captivating. This made me change my mind. I wanted to do same for people, I wanted to be able to comfort people, to care for them and love them just as they did with my mom”.
Ajoke said her mom’s situation was her inspiration and she is determined to helping other people live a healthy life.
She has always loved singing although she didn’t know she could do it professionally until she met Mr Shola Ojewusi who has been putting her through and encouraging her which made her realise she could do more Professionally, and she would always be grateful for his assistance. She majorly sings Classical, Rhythm and Blues as she believes it’s a kind of music that is gentle and connects with the soul.
Her first song produced was released in July and it’s available on Audiomack. Singing is fun and composing music has been quite easy for her as she is naturally gifted with it. Sometimes her inspiration comes from her imaginations, and could be things she sees and hears about.
However, the challenge so far in her music career has been one common to most young and upcoming artistes, Finance. “When I started doing things myself I realized it’s not as easy as it seems. My challenge basically has been finances. Of recent I shot a video and it didn’t come out nice and it actually almost dropped my focus and determination. Moreso, I don’t know much about the business aspect of music and it has really affected me, but I believe it all happened so I could learn more and get more experience” she said.
On the contrary, being a caregiver has been wonderful because the person who happens to be her first in-house patients is like a grandfather to her and the family members have been really supportive. She said he is a hymn writer, and she is opportuned to learn more from him.
Professionally, Olamide is determined to dilligently pursue both her Nursing and Music career as she is in love with both. Becoming a renowned and exquisite star in the music industry and studying hard to get her degree as a paramedic are the key goals she believes she would definitely get through to.
When asked what she finds most rewarding about being an auxiliary nurse, she said ” Being a caregiver, the joy and relief it gives to others in need of help with their health, and the happiness of my patient is rewarding enough for me” Clearly showing how blessed and caring she is at heart.
