NIN SIM: FG Lift Ban on SIM Replacement

Nigeria government has released policy for telecommunication service subscribers to replace sim cards.

The Nigeria government has allowed network providers to replace and activate old sim cards, this means that if you loss your sim card and wants to do welcome back, you can enter any office of your network provider, either MTN,GLO,9MOBILE, AIRTEL to activate it as long as you have your NIN.

Government has given order at December that Nigerian Communications Commision (NAN) should ban operators from selling or activating old sim cards.

The suspension order was supposed to last till they complete the audit of the subscriber Registration Database that would make the country achieve standards and quality for the issuance of SIM cards.

But the authority changed their earlier plans after the Nigeria Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Isa Ibrahim Pantami and stake holders sidon talked on the matter.

The NCC who announced government position on their website on Friday, Ist January 2021 said, based on recommendation from the technical committee, the minister decide to approve SIM replacement policy for subscriber who their Sim cards are stolen or damage.

He said the Sim replacement must follow this process :

  • Subscriber must present a NIN
  • NIMC must verify the NIN
  • And finally, operators must follow the Guidelines and Regulations which NCC give
