

During interdiction operations in Kwara, Kogi, and Niger states, personnel of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) made three arrests and seized a total of 256 kilograms of illegal substances from three traffickers.
Femi Babafemi, the agency’s spokesperson, said in a statement on Sunday, January 1, 2023, that on December 26, a group of NDLEA officers on stop-and-search duty along the Ilorin-Jebba highway arrested Idris Saeed, 19, with 60 blocks of compressed cannabis sativa weighing 30 kilograms.
During a similar operation along the Jebba-Mokwa road in Niger state, NDLEA agents also found 240 blocks of the same substance weighing 168 kilograms in multi-colored sacks loaded onto a Peugeot J5 bus with the registration number MAG 146 XA, which was traveling from Lagos to Kano for delivery.

On Saturday, December 24, operatives in Kogi state intercepted a truck traveling from Onitsha, Anambra state, to Maiduguri, Borno along the Okene-Abuja highway, resulting in the recovery of 9,900 ampoules of pentazocine injection (42 kg). On Tuesday, December 27, a suspect named Ibrahim Jibril, 20, was arrested on the same route with 40 blocks of cannabis sativa weighing 16 kg traveling from Lagos to Jigawa in Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa urged them and their fellow citizens across the nation to intensify their offensive efforts against drug cartels in the new year while also focusing on efforts to reduce drug demand.
