The former head of the IRT Squad stated in the statement titled “As Usual, Another Falsehood by Offa Bank Robber under Trial in Kwara State High Court” that if he and his team did not have conscience, they could have easily coerced the robbery suspect, Akinrinbosun, to sign a written false statement that implicates anyone or simply promised him a soft landing.
Instead, he claimed, he carried out his duties as a police officer in accordance with established laws, engagement guidelines, and police service guidelines.
The full statement was as follows: “On Wednesday, January 18, 2023, a serial bank robber caught in the act by Bank CCTV Cameras, without credibility tried fruitlessly to absolve himself of his sordid past by dragging the Police Officer, Abba Kyari, who arrested him and charged him to Court.
He told the court that Abba Kyari, a well-known police officer who had a track record of successfully apprehending terrorists, armed robbers, kidnappers, and other dangerous criminals, offered him “N10 million to implicate Senator Bukola Saraki.”
“One of the main suspects in the notorious Offa Bank Robbery, Ayoade Akinrinbosun, told the court in Ilorin, Kwara State, that DCP Kyari, Commander of the IGP Intelligence Response Team, IRT, tried to get him to say something about Saraki.
That’s a big lie. If Kyari’s three-year salary and allowances are not up to N10 million, where would he get the money to kill an armed robber in custody?
“If Kyari and his team lacked conscience, they could have easily coerced Akinrinbosun into signing a written false statement that implicated anyone or simply promised him a soft landing; however, this is unethical and would not have stood up to probity in court.
“Kyari, with his many years of experience, never coerced or forced anyone, no matter how high up they were, to implicate anyone.
Instead, he carried out his duties in accordance with established laws, conduct guidelines, and police service guidelines.
The Offa bank robbers freely admitted to being Saraki’s political thugs. They admitted that Saraki was unaware of the robbery at the bank.
They admitted that Saraki’s dash was in one of the Lexus jeeps used in the robbery.
The police investigation came to these conclusions. After that, everyone involved in the robbery of the Offa bank was brought before a judge and charged, and some other suspects who turned out not to be involved were let go.

“It is laughable to try to grasp at straws when an armed robber in custody claims that the police offered him 10 million dollars to indict someone—a bank robber whom you brought to court following an investigation. Is that understandable?
“Again, Kyari and his team arrested the Offa bank robbers who killed 31 innocent Nigerians by utilizing bank CCTV footage that captured the robbers in the act. Because these robbers will hate no one more than Abba Kyari in the entire world.
As a result, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that they have begun to lie about him, saying a lot of things that aren’t true. This is the usual way armed robbers lie in court to say they are innocent. In their efforts to be exonerated, Evans, the kidnapper, and numerous other convicted armed robbers and kidnappers have told numerous such lies in court.
“Remember what Evans the Kidnapper, who was identified by more than 20 of his victims, said in court in 2018 during his trial before being convicted and sentenced to life in prison. Among his many lies, one stood out: “that Kyari killed 60 people in one hour in his presence to force him to confess that he is a Kidnapper.” Imagine telling such lies.
“Everyone is aware that elections are about to take place in Kwara State, and it is unjust for Saraki’s people to try to win them. However, if they have a hand in this, it is regrettable and unfair to encourage their political thugs, who were arrested for bank robbery and charged with robbing five banks in Offa town and killing 31 innocent Nigerians, to lie against Kyari and the team that arrested them and brought them to court.
“Abba Kyari is not aware of those who fought him dirty and said some unprintable things because of politics, but Senator Saraki knows them.
“Abba Kyari has no issue at all with Saraki, and he has never told any armed robber to implicate Saraki or anyone else, and he has never planned anything bad against Senator Saraki.”
