Creators will benefit from the service in terms of faster community and presence expansion.
Meta Verified, a subscription bundle that includes a verified badge, has rollout plans announced by the parent company of Facebook and Instagram.
According to a statement released on Sunday, February 19, 2023, by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, a gradual test of the service will begin this week in Australia and New Zealand.
The badge provides users with government-issued identification, proactive security, direct access to assistance, and increased visibility and reach.
The service only accepts applicants over the age of 18, who must also submit a government ID that matches their profile name and image and meet the minimum activity requirements.
According to the statement, “people can purchase a monthly subscription for USD$11.99 on the web and USD$14.99 on iOS and Android.”
Zuckerberg, 38, stated that the service will assist creators on Facebook and Instagram in expanding their presence and developing communities more quickly.
Accounts that have already been verified on the platforms will not be altered while the service is still in its testing phase.
Soon after billionaire Elon Musk bought the company, another social media giant, Twitter, began selling its verified badge for $8 per month for the web and $11 per month for iOS last year.
Many trolls used the bought badge’s authenticity to impersonate well-known people and businesses during the feature’s November 2022 rollout, causing chaos. This necessitated the feature’s suspension before its subsequent relaunch.
The company announced last week that SMS two-factor authentication will only be available to Twitter Blue subscribers. Non-subscribers will no longer be able to use the security feature beginning in March, but they will still be able to use an authenticator app or a physical security key.
